How were the front lamp lenses colored. On the repops I have seen, the flat portion behind the round lens is colored..i.e. Red,blue, clear. Were they colored like this from the factory as well, or were the round lenses colored from the factory? Thanks

Re: 1969 fiberoptic lens
Hi:
Its been a lot of years since I owned my '69 roadster but the inserts in the various light fixtures consisted of a grey soft rubber insert and a colored (amber) insert piece....
Like this......different inserts for different light fixtures... head lights, tail lights etc etc ----

---and then the end of the fiber optic run was inserted into the end of the fixture ---- in the opening provided --- like this:

Accordingly, the amber color was transmitted to the indicator on the console ----
The indicators on the console were clear ---
Hope this helps...

I think there was a difference for the front and rear systems. The rear system used the colored inserts at the lamps and clear lenses at the console trim plate. The front system used clear inserts at the lamps and colored lenses at the console trim plate. Why it was done this way I've always wondered. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

It definitely was! It also more-or-less marked the introduction of the fiber optic era. Of course, this technology has been "considerably expanded" since that time. In fact, we're using it today to send these very messages. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
