'88 Anniversary Correct for Judging Headlamps and Rear Window Gas Struts

I'm working to get some correct parts for my 1988 35th Anniversary built 5/88 which hopefully are zero deduct parts. I have the TIM&JG but have a few picky questions. These are two slightly style different headlights and two decidedly different struts.

The blue lettering is faded on the Sara strut on the floor.strut-sara.jpgThoughts on deducts?

In my opinion...the bulb in your picture number 1, with the green tape with John on it, looks like the picture in the Judging Guide for the correct bulb for '88 and '89's. Your picture number 2 looks like the bulb that the '87 was delivered with.

On the scoring sheet headlights are worth 16 originality points (8 per lamp) and 14 condition points . Headlamps are covered by Standard Deduction Guidelines.

If the car has 2 bulbs like the one shown in your picture 1 there would be no deduction for originality but still could get a condition deduction. If a bulb or bulbs look like your picture 2 there would be a 70% deduction per lamp originality value and still would be judged for condition.

Again, this is my opinion, hope it helps...Paul

Thanks for the information. Interesting - the "incorrect" headlights are out of an '88. I can only guess that the car had some problem early on and these were there so.... At 16/14 I'd better get the '88 bulbs.

The struts are from an '88 - it obviously had them replaced. I knew they were different was just "hoping/wishing" that they were just a running change part since the donor '88 was built a month after mine. The wrong ones work better than mine which sometimes don't pop up. The rear hatch support rods aren't specifically mentioned in the ops section but are 8/8 points I'm guessing it's better to risk the hatch not popping up then using the replacements.

Is there anyone that rebuilds the gas struts?

There is a guy in Canada who charges about $35 to rebuild a set.

Keep in mind that for cars with rear window defogger the struts are side-specific. For cars without rear window defogger the struts are the same for either side.

I have a set of Supsa struts installed but they are slightly different than the ones I removed. With the hint to look for a Canadian company I found StrutWise in British Columbia. Is this referenced vendor?
