    1967 Speed Warning "Buzzer"

    Hi Everyone,

Does anyone know where I can source the "buzzer" for my speed warning gauge cluster.

THANKS in advance for your help[/suggestions.

Kurt, if the 67 buzzer is the same as the 69 (and going by the P&A it appears they are - Group 9.762, P/N 1386278 Buzzer), then you can use the 1115866, which is fairly inexpensive.

    HERE'S ONE ON EBAY

      Ed/Kurt,

I show 1361529 for the 1967 buzzer in the AIM U15 option section.

I looked around but came up short. I see replacements on ebay when searching the above part number, but no originals. I have one here, but it's installed on a car.

Rich, the original production line buzzer was 1361529, but was replaced by 1386278 in October, 1968. The chances of finding one of these (that still works) is slim at best. The 1386278 was the service replacement for many years (discontinued in 1990), but you might still find an NOS one on ebay if you get lucky and have unlimited funds! The 1115866 is actually an Oldsmobile part, but it looks exactly the same and functions exactly the same. The only difference between the original (1361529) and the replacement (1115866) physically, is the original doesn't have a part number stamped on the case and the 1115866 does. (If you still have your original, you can swap the cases.)

I found a 1386278 service buzzer on ebay a year or so ago for my 69, but I couldn't afford the $500 the seller was asking. After doing a lot of searching, I found that the
1115866 is a direct fit and functions the same. And at $25, it's a steal, so I got two.

However, I was able to fix my original
1361529 buzzer, so I only installed the 1115866 buzzers to test. They work fine, but having an L36 roadster with N14 side exhaust and U69/U79 AM/FM Stereo, you can guess that the U15 speed warning option is completely useless at highway speeds!

I've attached a picture showing a comparison between the original 1361529 (left) and the 1115866 (right).

besides being used in other GM cars and trucks of the era. they were also used in Big trucks like International road trucks for the air brake warning buzzer. that is where my dad found his.

            Ed/Rich/Keith,

Thanks for the information and photos. (Photos are so helpful). Unfortunately the seller on eBay link for the one Ed listed doesn't ship to Canada

Kurt, there are other ebay sellers that sell that same relay/buzzer, so just keep an eye out. It'll eventually show up.

Thank you Enzo, but the eBay seller doesn't even allow a Canuck to communicate with him through eBay. I will take you up on your offer if the need arises.

                      Re: 1967 Speed Warning "Buzzer"

Like Keith stated above, the 1361529 buzzers (actually called a relay) were used on a TON of cars and trucks (other divisions as well) in the 60's (and 70's), but you have to be careful when shopping for an NOS service 1386278. Early releases were exactly like the production 1361529 buzzer, but later issues had a ground tab attached to the case. It's the early "correct" 1386278's that go for the really big bucks. If you don't care about the tab, then you can pick up a later issue 1386278 for $100 or so. Still 4 times the price of the 1115866, which is physically the same as the 1361529 (with the exception of the part number stamped on the case). I've even found the 1115866 on ebay for less than $20, so if you're patient, you can find a good deal.

At one point in time, Standard Motor Products even had a generic replacement, but I don't see them listed in their catalog anymore. It was "similar", but the case was more "squared off" than the GM parts.

By the way, here's a picture of the later issue
                      1386278 with the ground tab.
