I apologize in advance as I don't have any books or specs. Working on my bosses 61 270 hp car and I am having a hard time getting it to fast idle when it is cold and the chock is set. The choke on these cars is on the rear carb. Chock sets fine and there is a lvere that goes down to a small cam plate that the idle screw sets on. That all seems to function correctly. Problem is there is no fast idle. Problem seems to be the cam has no "cam" on it. Doesn't matter where the idle screw is setting on that cam it idles the same. Before anyone replies that the idle screw is not touching that plate I have already checked. It is definitely hitting the plate and when I make adjustments on the idle screw it does change the rpm's. Wondering if these plates wear out. Any ideas?

Re: 61 270 hp fast idle
It almost seems like a tab on the main lever is missing. I recall I had a WCFB once and the tab was broken off. My fast idle and choke on my 270hp setup has been working fine forever and I can't recall what it looks like off the top.
Some close-up photos of the linkage on both sides may help figure out what may be wrong. And a good lookup of the details in the manuals will help for sure.

Yes that's a good reference. He should be able to figure it all out with that.
I just found the tab on the lever I had on one that was missing. It's the tab for the fast idle cam. I've seen these broken and obviously needed for the fast idle to work. I just did a quick copy paste from that pdf to show it. It may not be relative to his issue, but your document helped me remember the piece I was thinking of.

Re: 61 270 hp fast idle
Gents,
The set up on the car I am working on looks different. Almost like this was for the early version and it changed by 61. I am going to take some pics and post so you can see.John Seeley

Re: 61 270 hp fast idle
The car may have 'clone' carbs -- there are a ton of WCFBs of different makes repurposed for this use. If so, it may, or may not, have the correct parts/tabs/etc... Lots of owners are running clones and have no idea they aren't the 'real deal'...
See if the carb lids have 6-1299 on both of them and then look down the primary nozzles and see if they are cut straight vertically like the secondary nozzles or at a 45* angle...- Top

Re: 61 270 hp fast idle
My bad. I was incorrect as the carb is exactly as shown. Tab is there also. One thing that I notice on both carbs is that the throttle shaft to the "linkage" part is loose. I think to loose. Have to put it on the back burner as I have PV stuff to work on with my 65.John Seeley
