Several months ago I posted about a 70 Corvette which was left on a home owners lawn in my neighborhoods. The car was uncovered and left to the elements for 20 plus years that I know of. I passed the house just recently and the Corvette was somehow pulled or pushed into the owners driveway. It now has a car cover on it ? Yes after twenty plus years he has decided to cover it. The paint on this car was so faded you could see what appered to be gray prime or fiberglasss. The crazy part in all this is, the ties still have air in them. I dont know if the car was able to be rolled, as I would think after 20 plus years on grass the hubs would be frozen ? He dooes have a brick under the rear tire.

Re: Whats this guy thinking
Very interesting. I know of a '61 (FI) that was left under a tree in the front yard of a home for at least 30 years, until, it is now being fully restored. The owner died, his son honored his last wishes to get the car on the road like new, and it will be. I love these stories, this is probably one in the making.Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

Seriously, a friend of mine bought one like this after sitting for 20 years. It doesn't take salt to rust them out, as continuous exposure will do it just as well.Vice-Chairman (West), Michigan Chapter NCRS

Re: Whats this guy thinking
We have a friend who found a 1972 that had been parked outside so long a small tree (we call them saplings around here) was growing through the engine compartment. Are you ready for the best part? The car was an LT1 with AC.- Top

Re: Whats this guy thinking
Probably not a good idea. We used to know the neighbor who lived next door to this home owner, she worked with my wife. She hated the car on the lawn as she though it made the neighborhood look trashy. She said she never really barthered with the guy because he was weird. I will tell you one thing, if I ever see the guy outside while I am riding my bike, I will try and find out what makes this guy tick. I live several block away but often ride past the house.- Top

Re: Whats this guy thinking
we moved to a rural area of New York 25 years ago there was a 67 marina blue 327 4speed convertible Camaro in my neighbors yard. I have a 67 marina blue vette after a year I asked if it was for sale and of course no its my wifes first car her dad was a GM exec and we are going to restore it. The car was border line at that time. I watched that car rust away for the next ten years and one day he knocks on my door and says I am ready to sell. By then there was not enough metal left to even weld on. I don't know what goes through some car peoples minds- Top

Re: Whats this guy thinking
I ride my bike in a suburban neighborhood and I can't tell you how many cars were or are sitting outside, many without covers. Some of these cars have set for years untouched. He are a few that come to mind. 73 Mustang Mach1, 70 GTO, 86 Corvette, 55 Dodge, 77 Corvette, 65 442, 76 Trans Am, 84 Datsun Z turbo, 56 Chevy Bel air, 58 Edsel, some of these are covered so its had to tell what they are , but by the shape you can tell they are old. People just leave these cars to the elements. I don't get it. They just must have no idea what weather can do to a car.Last edited by Walter F.; April 1, 2016, 05:42 PM.- Top
