How to remove fan cage from '66 heater blower motor

Is there any trick to removing the fan cage from the heater blower motor after the one center nut is removed? Do I need to use a puller of some kind? Or can I just pry gently at the OD periphery between the fan cage and the motor?

    Gary,
If you can use a puller without damaging it then rig one up. I just hold the fan up with the motor hanging and tap the shaft. 2 people make it easy.

Careful how you do this. If you hit the shaft too hard you can actually move the shaft inside the armature wiring and still not get the fan off. Don't ask me how I know.

Sounds like the use of a puller of some kind is best. Thanks.

          Gary,
Remember I said a TAP. With the motor hanging, if you don't pound it the motor should drop. A little penetrating oil helps, but as Harry said be careful.
The puller can also screw things up. I did a bunch of them as I described and all worked out without damage, but it may take more than one TAP.

            Dom,

Thanks. Will try some gentle taps.
