    About to rewire my '56

Have a full Lectric Limited wiring kit, and I'm about to start re-wiring the whole car.
    Couple questions:
Does it make sense to start from the front and work back? Or start under the dash and work out in all directions? Or???
Is it best to remove the old wiring as you go, or remove it all before you start?

This is a new project for me, so any and all suggestions are most welcome!

    Thanks, Bill Flammer #23767

Know very little on 56, but take lots (lots) of pictures and label.

Im not sure if the electric limited are exact matches but if they are get a good wiring diagrahm take alot of pictures as Alan said and do it in sections. make your firewall the center of it all. treat everything in the engine compartment as one section everything under the dash as another section and everything from the firewall back as another. if you have a good diagrahm its actually pretty easy. as you remove one section follow it with the new one.
        hope that helps

          Thanks Bob. Makes sense.
I have what I believe to be a good wiring diagram.
The part I look forward to the least is under the dash, simply due to the "contortionism" required.
          Thanks, Bill

I used the same wiring harness on my 56 about 10 yrs ago. I used a colored wiring diagram which is a big help. The hardest part was getting the wiring through the left sill and especially over the left rear inner fender and the body. Good luck.

Jerry, I have the colored wiring diagram, so sounds like that helps.
Sounds like the areas where you had difficulty were encountered bringing the rear harness forward? Is it best to start in the back and work forward?
Any tips on how you got past the points noted would be appreciated.
              Thanks, Bill

I think I pulled the wiring from front to rear on the drivers side but it's been 10 yrs ago. It's very tight between the inner fender and the body. I don't remember if I used a stiff wire to pull the wiring through or not. I'm sure every body is a little different in the amount of space in this area. I used a very long screwdriver to try to open it up a little. It's tight. Everything else with the harness will be fine. Good luck

Bill: When working under the dash, I recommend taking the seats out. If your older like me (74) that can make the job easier.

Certainly take the driver's seat out. But there's not a lot of wiring over on the passenger side. Take the steering off too. If you take the driver's seat out, you'll have more room to get the wires to the back of the car. Now's the time to do your antenna cable, if it needs it.
