1958 Delco heavy duty shock?

I have a shock that came with my '57 when I purchased it 4 years ago. I've always meant to check the part number to see what it is. Today I finally did.

It is a Delco 5532411. Beneath the DELCO PRODUCTS DAYTON, OHIO U.S.A. is the stamp 5C58.

Is this a 1958 heavy duty shock? My car was converted to heavy duty suspension by Max Balchowsky; probably sometime in 1958. If this is one of the shocks he put on the car, I'd like to find some reproductions just like it and put them on. Does anyone know of a decent reproduction of these shocks?

It would appear to be a HD Brakes shock , assembled in 1958. I am unaware of any repo's, but that doesn't mean that they don't exist. Most vintage racers today seem to get by with a version of koni's.

Thanks, Loren. My car was converted to heavy duty brakes and suspension at about that time for racing, and while many of the parts remain, some are gone. Though I do not intend to race it, I've been trying to return it to it's fully converted state.

HD Shocks are expensive. Check with Dan Patch - he's listed in the Community pull down Member List.

Dan, there's definitely no valving number on my shock.
