Re: L71 exhaust manifolds
Joe,
Thank you for your quick reply. Once again sorry for the posting confusion. Interesting bit of history you shared with me. I checked my other passenger side manifold and it is missing the T as well but it has all of the correct characteristics and it matches the date on the drivers side manifold and was a 3 time Top Flight car. So back to the NOS manifold, even though the nubs aren't noted in the CTJG, I'm assuming the manifold will not pass judging. I will also assume when you say rare you're referring to the scarcity of the part but not necessarily the value of the part. With all of this being said, it sounds like a rare part without an application except being installed on a Corvette that will not be judged. Before I purchased the part I didn't pay close attention to the nubs in the pics because I was more concerned about the casting number and casting date. The part was advertised as a NOS manifold with a 8-31-6 date. My biggest concern is a I paid $1600 for the part and it sounds like it isn't even close to that value. Your thoughts? Please note I'm most certainly not asking you to give me a value.
In regards to the "6" in the NOS manifold date, I fully understand your point. I have a AFB 3721SB with a date code of "G0". The carb was last installed at the factory in I believe in 1965 and it wasn't used in 1960. So the earliest the date for the carb would be is 1970. Although I believe the B in SB represents a service part. Point being I fully understand your explanation of the casting date.
