    C1 1960 Radiator Judging question

I am finding it very difficult to impossible to find a correct core replacement for a 1960 original Harrison radiator. Dewitt makes a Direct Fit but the core is not "correct" for judging. If a correct core is no longer available, how will the new radiator (correct top and bottom with the correct tag) be scored?

Or is there a place to purchase the correct core?

    thanks

Your '60 has a brass radiator, I assume?

explain what is wrong with the replacement core that the judges would notice. I never had a deduction with dewitt's replacement core, although I would go with a new direct fit radiator. replacement core alone is $495 and then there is the radiator shop cost.

I have been told (even by Dewitt) their Direct Fit radiator core is not the honey comb style, so there is a difference. Dewitt no longer has the $495 core. I even called the company that supplied Dewitt their cores and they do not have it. Just wondering how the Judges are scoring radiators with a different core pattern if the replacement core is no longer available?

I took a 60 through judging in 2013. When I took the car apart, it had an incorrect older replacement radiator. I installed a DeWitt restoration radiator and got a 4 point deduct at the Bowling Green Regional for the ID tag. The ID tag and information was OK, but it was to neatly installed, the judge wanted to see so solder slop around the tag. I fixed this before the Hampton National.

I lost no points at Hampton National. My 60 was a 245HP and early (November 59) build, so it did not have the tank top radiator.

Sounds like we have the same radiator configuration. 283, 230HP. I have the original tag that Dewitt can solder on. Did you go with the black ice or did you paint it yourself?

              thanks

I bought it black from them. However, I am restoring my 66 coupe now. It came with a DeWitt radiator, but was looking a little ragged. I bought some of DeWitt's paint and repainted my 66 radiator. Their claim is their paint is made specifically for radiator application.

I would recommend buying already painted. Why mess with painting it?

I just looked at their website and I only see the Tank Top radiator listed for 1960 cars. I don't see early 60 and low horsepower restoration radiators listed on their website. Are they no longer making these reproductions?

The radiator that will replace mine is the 1139055, I do not have the top overflow tank.
