    67 Roadster Door Window Regulator

My door window regulator has about a 30 degree arc of slack.....Side window, NOT the vent. Corvette Central carries a repro that seems identical to original. Anyone have experience with this replacement? Also, can these originals be rebuilt to eliminate this slack? If you've done it, how?
Second related question..... What's the cure for a loose door or vent window handle on the regulator? I've tried the aluminum foil trick without success. I have the problem with both original & repro handles .
    Thanks for any help!

Ralph, Some free play is designed into the crank assy, probably about 22.5 degrees would be my estimate. The wear points I have seen would start with the clutch case working its way loose and the holes enlarging then wear on the arc gear . The internal gear is a hardened steel and would be the last to go. Also, the rivet and the rivet hole at the scissors point will wear. It is pretty common for the rollers to freeze up and the roller tracks to bend from lack of grease. So it could be a little bit of everything causing the excess play.
There have been previous posts about the repo regulators that have been used with varying amounts of success, but they sell them in a set of two and you usually just need the driver side. Paragon advertises that they rebuild window regulators too.
I don't have much of an answer on the handles other that get the best crank, handle and clip that you can find.

I would make sure all the mounting points in the door are not broken. The repro rebuild kits of the vent window gears do work and not that hard to do.

Thanks, Stewart, agree with your points.... I didn't think any "play" would have been part of the original design. I guess a little free play on the regulator gear can multiply at the knob ...especially on the longer main window crank ? All the other moving parts seem to be OK . My original looks much better than the ones currently on Ebay.

Yes, I agree the vent window regulators are easy to rebuild with the available new gears...

The window regulator is a different design than the vent regulator. The freeplay you feel is not the gears (unless they are worn), it is in the clutch mechanism between the splined shaft the handle attaches to and the gears.
