OK '63 gurus - What's the configuration, i.e., with or without the 1/4" dia. drain hole, that would be expected on a Feb 1963 Corvette? Thanks, Pete

Re: Spare Tire Locks
Pete,
If you read that thread most likely you have no idea what is correct for the February car. I believe that in February the lock had the 1/4" hole and the foam pad with no cover boot. Late cars had the boot and no pad and the early cars had no drain hole.- Top

Re: Spare Tire Locks
John, Bob, & Harry - Thanks for the info. It looks like the configuration with the 1/4" dia drain hole is appropriate for the Feb 1963 Corvette. It's always good to check with the '63 gurus, because the 63-64 TIM&JG uses the words "Early" & "Later" & when I checked the definitions neither term seemed to me to be appropriate for a Feb 63 car's spare tire lock.
Oh & John I know you might not remember what you ate last night but knowing you I know you had dinner.
And I appreciate everyone's input & thanks again, Pete- Top

Re: Spare Tire Locks
Bob,
I contributed to that 2015 thread and I agree with you completely, i.e., no one knows for sure. I do believe that the lock on a Feb car would likely have the 1/4" weep hole, but I have no research to support or refute that assumption.

Re: Spare Tire Locks
I don't think matter much with my car, Gary. It's a November 62 build so I think the no hole is right for me. I had one then found out the other is correct so I found one. I may be wrong but I believe the 1/4" diameter hole lock went into the 1965 year.- Top

Re: Spare Tire Locks
Tim - You just can't have too many spare tire locks. The comment on the use of the spare tire lock assembly with the 1/4" dia. drain hole is interesting because research on the 1965 Corvette spare tire lock assembly configuration for the new TIM&JG revealed that some very late production '65 Corvettes had the 1966 Corvette spare tire lock configuration that has the 3/8" dia. drain hole & the unpainted lock case. Working on old cars is always interesting. Pete- Top

Re: Spare Tire Locks
Pete,
Correct me if I wrong but doesn't the new '65 TIM&JG state that the 1/4" weep hole lock used in '65 MY cars was unpainted? In my 15 years of research involving many, many spare tire locks, I have never seen the 1/4" weep hole lock in an unpainted version. All the 1/4" weep hole locks I have ever seen were painted semi- to gloss black, except for the bottom which was natural.

Re: Spare Tire Locks
Gary - That's been my experience also. I think the spare tire lock assembly shown in photo [E 19-2] on p.87 in the 1965 TIM&JG & described in the second paragraph of the "Spare tire lock, boot & key" is an example of the late 1965 & the Production year 1966 style lock with the 3/8 " drain hole. In fact, photo [E 19-2] appears to be identical to the photo [E-26] on p.80 in the 1966 TIM&JG of the 1966 model lock with the 3/8" diameter drain hole. Pete- Top

Re: Spare Tire Locks
FYI Peter in case you forgot. The '63 Corvair key you gave me fits my spare tire lock perfect. Also opens the doors and works the ignition.John, Bob, & Harry - Thanks for the info.
