Re: Starter #'s can't find.
i have about a dozen "Motor Manuals" (the bound blue books) from 1932 to about 1980. within these motor manuals, i've often been able to identify the applications for starters, generators, alternators and so forth. your starter looks like it was produced in late 1967, 1977 1987 etc, so pick a motor manual that covers those years and u should be able to identify the application. you may have to look under all 5 GM marques . good luck, mike- Top

Joe-----
This starter part number is part of a series of Delco starter part numbers first used for the 1978 model year. So, I would expect that your starter was manufactured on October 20, 1977 for a 1978 model year vehicle. I can't find any passenger car application for the 1998206 starter so I expect it had a truck application.
Originally, I believe these 1998xxx series starters had a flange mount type nose. However, there's no telling what nose might be on it now. If it's been through a commercial rebuilder's operation all that's left of the original starter is the frame (the part with the stamped numbers). In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
