    Flattening oil pan rail holes

I used this method to flatten the bolt holes on the oil pan rail - I had a piece of square tube stock that fit within the width of the rail, and then used a c-clamp to press the holes flat. I was very pleased with the results -

I do pretty much the same with steel bar but I tap the holes with a small hammer. Backing up the bar against wood sitting on the bench. Achieves the same results. Good tip.

I've found a general purpose dolly will fit the underside of the rail allowing a couple taps with a finish/pick hammer. Generally the same setup but it's very easy to move the dolly.

i have an ancient blacksmiths anvil i use in place of a dolly. a modified body hammer ,who width is less than the "trough" , will allow flattening of the concave depressions in the "trough". i probably use the anvil at least daily. suggest you all pick one up at the local flea market/swap meet. invaluable little critters. mike
