    Fast burn heads

I'm wondering what the configuration of the GM "Fast Burn" aluminum heads is, i.e. what intake and exhaust manifolds mate up with them? Can they be installed on an old 327 (870) block?

Also, what is the reason that the Vortec-type heads don't work with old manifolds?

    Thanks,
    Mike

Any small block intake manifold (except Gen II) will be compatible with the "fast Burn" heads. This includes any standard bolt pattern as well as Vortec. The "Fast Burn" heads have dual bolt patterns for standard as well as Vortec manifolds.

I believe any small block exhaust manifold will also work. However, the "Fast Burn" head exhaust ports are raised by 0.2". So, a special exhaust manifold gasket has to be used (Fel-Pro #1470).

These heads have no provisions for heat cross-over. They do have provisions for the use of either center bolt or perimeter bolt valve covers.

These heads have 62 cc combustion chambers and will work with any small block of 327 CID or larger (also 302, if that matters).

The reason that most Vortec type heads will not work with old manifolds is that the Vortec bolt pattern is different. However, some Vortec heads are dual-drilled for both standard and Vortec intake manifold bolt patterns.
