We are restoring a '62 owned for many decades by a family here. The car is a 327/340 4 speed car with both tops. It has not been driven since 1977. White now we think it was originally black and that is what we are going back with. We have the body off the frame and have about completed the frame/drivetrain work. We plan to work the body next.

Re: '62 Restoration
Hello Mike, I got your PM with the serial number. It looks like a white with black interior and I did read that you thought it was Black exteriuor from the factory. Could I get the engine ID number if it is original (Flint Stamping) , transmission type, and any other options (example) power windows, power top, radio delete, heater delete, PCV valve, Big Brake or Big Tank. Thanks Very much. Daniel Ross #12918- Top

The car is pretty much basic stock than the 340hp engine and 4 speed transmission and the two tops (not power). The S# on the frame does match the serial number of the car.
These folks also had a 1961 Corvette. It was all to pieces but had a good body and a good frame and about 75% of the parts were with the car. We sold that car to a fellow on the Ms Gulf Coast and they are restoring it. The engine in that one was the same story as the engine in the '62.- Top

Re: '62 Restoration
The car is all tarped up now. We plan to put it back on the frame this week and I'll look behind the seats for clues about the original color. Here are a couple of pictures back when we taking it apart. (Well, one of these shows the hatch open and it is black there).- Top

Re: '62 Restoration
Mike, Next time there take a blunt scraper behind the passenger seat. There you may find the color clue. It should be a green grease crayon mark. The HT is for Hard Top on this example. IVORY = White.

On my '59 it was in the trunk area, also IVORY.

Re: '62 Restoration
We have no clue what a cars color are from the serial number. What Mike was saying that he initially thought the car was black because he thought he recognized the car as one he knew previously, but it was not that car. Sorry for any confusion on my part. Dan- Top

Re: '62 Restoration
Mike,
Just a little clarification on finding the color of the car behind the passenger seat! Yes, it's behind the seat alright but you must remove the cardboard separator (sometimes called a trunk liner) in the trunk before you can find the color written on the fiberglass in green grease pen. You may have to scrape some of the paint from the fiberglass.
On the inside behind the passenger seat on the inside of the car you may find HT if the car was so equipped with a Hardtop.
