    Lacquer Paint Help

A few years ago I did much detail work on my '65 Coupe trying to get it to a Top flight status with the NCRS. I was successful on a Chapter and then on a Regional judged basis. I had stripped the car and then repainted with lacquer paint (Goldwood Yellow) that I bought from TCP Global, in Ca. I didn't know it then but the color was not correct. The paint is yellow has too much green in it (my wife calls the car 'Kermit'!) and so I need to repaint. I know this subject has been beat to death here but I need recommendations on where to buy lacquer paint. You cannot get it here (Ms) that I know of. Thanks for any help for a good source (not TCP Global) for lacquer paint.

    Mike,

I feel your pain, why don't you get in touch with the NCRS paint tech/adviser and discuss, I think his name is Tom Ames but not 100% certain.

I would do that before I spent any $$ and time on the paint job and I bet you get some good advice.

PPG dealers still sell lacquer paint.

              Hey Mike, fellow Mississippian,
You mean the judges didn't catch it? Maybe you shouldn't have told about it having too much green in this forum. Lol

Lacquer paint is not necessary to achieve acceptable results at Flight Judging. As Tom Ames told us yesterday the Judging Retreat, it doesn't matter what you use, basecoat/clearcoat or any other material. It just requires that it's applied in a manner to look like the way the Corvette plant produced in the 60's. There are a number of painters that can create that 'look'. You're lucky that Goldwood Yellow is not a metallic. Finding and applying metallic colors is tricky.

There are NO painters (real painters) that can apply paint like the workers in St. Louis did in the 60's and 70's. Blind people with today's equipment and paints can paint better than a St. Louis painter with a Union Card.
                  Just joking (really?).
Glad Mr. Ames has stepped up and clarified the NCRS policy on paint!!!

                    Re: Lacquer Paint Help

I am doing a frame off on a 1969 convertible in Riverside Gold. I purchased lacquer paint from TASCO in Athens TN, phone number 423-745-9297 and plan to paint the car this spring. I believe that the person that I worked with was Greg. He was great to work with since he had to order the tints he did not have to mix this color. You can not be in a hurry since he had to contact suppliers all over the country to find all the tints he needed. Great person to work with but I am not sure about them shipping. For information Athens is located about half way between Chattanooga and Knoxville TN. Hope this is of some help.

                      Steve,

IMO, you would be well advised to do a spray panel first to compare to something in the original color. The paint may or may not need to be tinted and after all your work make sure first.

                        Re: Lacquer Paint Help

It is my understanding that lacquer, that can be purchased currently, does not have lead in it like in the past before the rules changed drastically.
