    Underhood Fuel-line Rub Felt

My LT4 is missing the square piece of felt that gets installed just aft of the passenger side hood light and prevents the fuel lines from rubbing on the underside of the hood. I have the 1984-1996 Corvette C4 Parts Catalog and all the hood components are pictured and listed in section 8G. However, this felt piece is the one part not pictured or listed.

Does anyone know the part number for this?

If it's the same material as the rear seal felts: part numbers 10272962-3-4, then it looks very simple to make from self-adhesive felt that can be bought at any arts & craft store. Which leads to my next question:

What are the exact dimensions of this felt pad?

    Thanx

    Floyd,

Is there any evidence that the felt was there in the first place? How many miles on the car?

If you're adding felt because there is evidence of rubbing that is one thing, but I would not add it just to match the judging manual. Would not want to effect the originality of the car. Diffiferences are the sources of updates to the JM.

Not like this stuff would fall off without leaving some evidence of being there in the first place.

      David,

Thanx for your response. I was thinking the very same thing. The car had 98k on it when I bought it off a wholesale lot in Memphis. However, the car is very original. Still has the original shocks, date coded hoses, date coded wheel well seals, etc. The only things I've been able to find that have been replaced are normal service items like filters and the serpentine belt. The under hood is in great shape for a car with 98k on the clock. The original felt seals at the back of the hood are in excellent shape and there is no evidence that a felt was ever installed behind the passenger side hood light. There is no adhesive residue and the original paint is pristine. I know the current 94-96 TIM&JG is a first edition and there are many corrections on the way.

I would like to take an informal pole and see if other late '96 owners have this piece of felt in place - or not. Perhaps there was change to the fuel lines so this was no longer needed? I see no evidence of rubbing in that area and the C4 catalog no longer includes this part in the diagrams or parts listing.

I would let it be, not many points in any case. Hate to mess with an original car to make it consistent with a JM.

a while back at a chapter meet where I was on the C4 judging team I recall that the felt was part of a TSB as a dealer would have put that on to help solve noise complaints

Guys, my 95 had the felt pad in question, but a deer took it home as a souvenir.
This question has come up in the judging process and there has not been any definitive answer. Some C4s that I have seen had the patch and some did not. Yes it was the same material as the rear seal. I have never seen a deduction for the lack of the felt pad.

I remember when the felt was added and if I remember correctly, not every car got it.
