    1968 BB 3X2 intake

I found this intake with the numerous parts for the original L68 block from the Corvette I'm working on. I know it's not the original from the date code, It has 12.13.67 cast in the underside and the number 4256 is cast directly below the date. I was curious if it appears to be the proper configuration for a 3199850. The mark is stamped on what appears to be a flat pad that used to contain a cast number so I suspect it is a fake that was acquired at a swap meet somewhere. I seem to remember reading on the forum about some verified manifolds that had stamps instead of cast numbers so who knows? The rear carb flange is 4 1/4 " above the surface that mounts to the block and the front carb flange is 2 3/4" above the block surface. That would tilt the breather up in the rear. Is that correct?

I have no doubt this is an original GM #3919850 manifold. This manifold was used for early 1968 L-68's and the date code you found is entirely consistent with that. Why some GM aluminum manifolds had stamped-in part numbers rather than the usual cast-in, I do not know. However, this is seen quite regularly.

The difference in height of the carb mount flanges that you described is exactly how these manifolds were designed.

Thanks Joe. I'm sure this isn't the original intake since the build date is Oct 67 but it's nice to know that if I invest in the carbs it will fit OK.
