    Shipping R-12

Can R-12 refrigerant be shipped via air?

    Thanks!

Maybe domestically. USPS.com lists the four things below as prohibited for domestic mailing. (It's interesting that air bags are one of the four things. Go figure.) So the question is if compressed R12 is considered "explosive". Mailing internationally restricts a lot more stuff including aerosols. I didn't see a distinction between surface vs. air.

I've found UPS and FedEx to be less restrictive. You might try calling them.

    • Air bags
    • Ammunition
    • Explosives
    • Gasoline

FYI you can ship ammo - just not through the post office. UPS and FedEx will ship it.

Anyway, I suspect that R-12 would have to be ground shipped like any other compressed item / aerosol.

Actually I have found that USPS is technically the only one that will ship it. FedEx and UPS ban its shipment
