    65 Blackwall Tires

May I please get some clarification on the blackwall tires for 1965. In the new 1965 Technical Manual, on page 90, it states that the standard blackwall could be a B. F. Goodrich Silvertown 660 or 770. I am thinking that the 770 could be a misprint; and that the correct sizes would be 660 and 670? I have a spare B. F. Goodrich Silvertown 4 Ply Polyester Tubeless 6.70 tire that has never been mounted on a Corvette. My other question is this: Is the 670 blackwall the tire that was the low-volume option that was available through January 1965? Also, was the 660 blackwall option available through the entire year of 1965? As always, I truly appreciate the feedback! Sincerely, Mark

    My 65 I ordered came with General Jet-Aire II BW tires, 7:75 x 15.

The OE tire size from '53 to '64 is 6.70-15; '65-'67 is 7.75-15. These sizes apply to all base and optional tires.

Per Duke's post, I have a photocopy of '65 VIN 06412's window sticker (mid-January-ish production) and it reads:
        2P91AA 775 x 15 4 PLY BSW
These were the OPTIONAL blackwalls, and cost $ 15.70.

Mark, the new 1965 JG makes clear on page 89 that the production tire size for the 1965 Corvette is 7.75 x 15. The B. F. Goodrich Silvertown tire is one of the production tires used in that size.

            Gentlemen,

I have a 1965 Corvette spare BF Goodrich Silvertown 660 Tubeless White Wall Tire.

            It is a 7.75 X 15

The Silvertown 660 or 770 has nothing to do with the size of the tire.

It's the series that BFG designates. Or model number!

The base blackwall tires were rayon cord. P91 was a blackwall nylon cord tire.

Duke, Joe, Tony,Ken and Wayne: Thank you very much for the information! This helps me with that tire. I also have a Firestone blackwall 7.75 x 15 Tubeless Deluxe Champion with the serial numbers 00197MD. Was this a blackwall tire that was only used toward the beginning of 1965 production or was it used throughout 1965. This is also a spare in very nice condition. You guys are helping me on my tire learning curve; so I apologize on my ignorance on this subject. Sincerely, Mark
