    Adjusting 1957 door

Just bought a 1957. The driver side door edge rubs the body at the rear, and needs to be adjusted forward about 1/8". Can the door be moved forward to increase the gap at the rear?

      Thanks for the quick reply.
Does this mean the hinge is slotted?

yes, the door will slide foreword or rearward when the bolts are loosened. i usually place some wooden shims covered with thin rags between the sill moldings and the bottom of the door then gently close the loose door. the shims will keep the door from dropping at its rear . then just get in from the passenger side and tighten the door to hinge bolts after you slide the door foreword the needed amount. is your 57 a late one with the metal door jamb reinforcements or an early 57(say pre vin4000). good luck, mike

Not trying to hijack this thread, but FYI, my 57, #4122 (about May 20) dos not have the reinforcements, so they must have come close to the end of 57 production.

i was too lazy to check the JM for the change to metal reinforcement in the door jambs but i know 4450 has metal . 1093 does not. i've owned these two 57 FI's since 1970. mike
