67 door gaps at top front

Hopefully these pictures will go through. If so, I'll post some more in a while.

In the photo it looks ok, but the 1/4" measured gap is a bit wide. Suggest you shim in the top of the door if you want to make it tighter.

Gene, by this do you mean take out a shim or 2 at the top hinge for the adjustment?

Gene, it varies from approx. 3/16 at the bottom to the 1/4" you see in the pictures. Driver's side is worse than the passenger side. I have been hit with a deduct for excessive gaps at the tops of both doors. I guess the thing that bothers me the worse is being able to see part of the hinge post weatherstripping inside the gap.

Al, this takes a lot of trial and error. Generally a shim needs to be split (or use open ended shims) so the effect is it pivots the hinge pin inward. The half shim will go towards the rear of the door, top hinge mount. it sounds goofy to add shims to move the door in but you are "tilting" the pin inward when you do the partial shim at the rear. Also try stepping the shims so the hinge is resting solid with door. I had a friend that milled a shim wedge shaped to a knife edge that worked real nice.

You will need to reset the vent window to fit with the windshield moldings. Suggest loosen wing window to start with.

Thanks Gene, I did notice on the driver's door that there is a small lump of probably bonding material on the inner part of the door right at the lower crease (crease that is approx. 1/2 way down the door) that is just barely missing the fender when the door is opened. Thinking this may have to be filed down and touched up before the door can be moved inward to prevent rubbing the edge of the fender when the door is opened. May be why the painter left the doors "as is". I will work on this when time permits. Trying to get all the air conditioning stuff back on and charge the system up again. 1 thing at a time. Thanks to all who responded. Also, a big thanks for combining the pictures and instruction on doing it in the future. Al

Al, What is the rear of the door gap and height difference, if any?

I would consider just raising the top front of the door using the door hinge adjustment. This may also require some adjustment of the vent window frame. Then re-adjust shims at the #3 and #4 mounts to make the rear gap better.

Once you start moving the body around from the firewall forward, lots of things start to change and may give you more trouble later.

Richard, rear gaps are approx. 1/8" top to bottom and the door height is also good to the top of the fenders.
