Need Advice: Mid-Year Hardtop Headliner Stainless Moulding

I am working on a 1964 convertible with a hardtop, just painted Daytona Blue and the new
headliner is silver (vinyl). This hardtop isn't original to the car and there is no date code on the plexi-glass.

While stripping it down, I noticed that it had been painted several colors (red, blue, black), and the
stainless molding is painted black except the pieces behind the window glass,
which have no paint on them. The old headliner that I removed was blue, but had been re-dyed black.

What is the proper finish to use on these stainless molding pieces when installing a silver headliner?

    Thanks,
    Russ Trotter

I need to think about this..

What color are your seats, dash pads and radio side panels?

      Two-tone interior, dark blue/silver:

      Seats/Door Panels: Silver
      Dash pads: Dark Blue
      Radio Side Panels: Dark Blue

Russ, over the years I have seen a chrome finish on the inside trim but I do not believe that is correct. Best I can recall all the interior metal parts are painted with lacquer paint to match the interior trim. If your radio side panels are blue, dash and dash pads are blue I'd suggest blue lacquer paint for the hardtop trim.

        Hopefully others will chime in.

I consulted with 2 businesses that restore mid-year hardtops, Glassworks and Autoentec. They recommended priming the stainless
trim and then applying a flat color coat that matches the color of the headliner. In my case I applied a flat coat of
argent silver to match the silver headliner and then clear-coated over it.
