    C-3 Headlight rubber boots

My vehicle is not yet complete enough to be drivable or even started up. I have notice that my headlight operating diaphragm rubber link shields have depleted them self's to the point that they are falling apart, mine are only 2 years old ( they have been cycled periodically and not exposed to weather). Is this a normal situation requiring replacement every few years? Is there anything that will prolong their life(other than converting to electric operators) as it's a pain in the "you know what" to replace them?
    Thanks -- Rey S.

One of the actuators, including boot, on my original owner 1969 is original to the car and is in perfect condition after 47 years.

Living in a dry climate will help to dry the rubber out and make it brittle. They also rub against themselves when cycling in and out and this can cause a failure. One way to help is to cost them with a silicone grease. This will prevent the boot from rubbing and causing a failure.

        Thanks Bob
I will incorporate this fix when I get around to changing them. Coat the inside as well ? I will also do the wiper door actuator !
