A friend of mine and I are trying to figure out the correct configuration of the rivet connecting the two sections of a C2 Jack handle (a/k/a a lug wrench) -- arcane stuff, I know. We realize that the original jack handles have a concentric (or perhaps spiral) ring head, as shown at Photo #12-11 in the new '65 Judging Guide. We've observed that the bottom of the same rivet appears to show different configurations, sometimes consisting of a built-up pyramid shaped "glob," and other times looking more like a doughnut with a slightly depressed center area. None of the original rivet bottoms apparently resemble the rivet undersides used on the repro Jack handles, which appear to look more like the neat and tidy rivets seen on the original jacks (versus jack handles).
Can someone please post a couple of photos of original jack handle rivets, particularly the compressed bottom of the rivet. Also, does anyone know whether the configuration of the rivets (and thus presumably the method used to attach the rivets) on C2 Jack handles changed over the years, thus perhaps accounting for differences in appearance between the pyramid "glob" versus the doughnut shaped rivet bottoms. If so, what configuration would one expect to see on a '64 lug wrench? Thanks as always in advance.
