    65 clean air tube location

Hi guys, any chance someone has a really good pic of exactly where the entrance point of the clean air tube is on the manifold of a 300/327? It's easy to see the exit point located on the top side of the manifold. Also, I looked on the underside of the air filter housing ( dual snorkel version ) and there isn't a connection point for any hoses other than the large crankcase tube at the rear. I was under the impression this is where the fresh air tube started its journey downward to the manifold ???????

I'm guessing you're talking about the tube for the choke system. The hose attaches to the air horn of the carb. and then to a metal tube that enters the lower front of the exhaust manifold.2011_09280038.jpg2011_09280040.jpg

Very good pic Jim ! That answers my questions precisely. But I'm not looking forward to pulling the manifold, esp on an A/c car.
      Thx Jim !

        John,
As I recall you don't need to remove the exhaust manifold. The air tube can be installed from the bottom up with the manifold in place.

I had to pull the manifold in order to remove the fresh air tube. Got it out without a tremendous amount of difficulty. A rather difficult job with the compressor in the way. I do have a question though; I've ordered all the tubes required through LI, how exactly does the tube ( or rubber hose ) actually connect to the tube that passes through the manifold ? Does the tube protrude beyond the surface of the manifold enough to actually connect the rubber hose directly to it, and if it does, seems like that would be very close to an extremely hot surface and I would think the rubber hose would melt. When I ordered the hose set, there was no mention of fittings to make the connections ????

The metal tube in the pictures I posted simply pushes into the tube in the exhaust manifold. The only rubber hose is the short piece that connects the top end of that tube to the air horn of the carb.

It sounds like you plan on replacing the tube that is press fit inside the exhaust manifold. In which case you need to remove the manifold. This tube is generally difficult to remove in one piece but doable. Cutting it and removal in two pieces is easiest.

OK, I got the manifold off, despite the gigantic A/C compressor being all up in the way. Not easy. Fortunately, the tube that ran through the manifold came out without a lot of trouble. Waiting on new replacement parts. I think I have a pretty good idea on how it all is "supposed" to go back together. not exactly sure where the tubes attach to the engine, but maybe it will be somewhat obvious. The restored carb will be here shortly, waiting on Carb Junky's. Thx guys for the assistance.
