One of the options that is nice to have on a convertible is the optional hardtop. It's probably one of the least used options. Anyway I set the hardtop in the basement about 20 years ago and slowly took it apart. At the same snails pace I polished the stainless, painted the interior trim, bought a new rubber kit, polished the rear glass then last week had the top painted.
The old headliner had one small gash in it. I should have left it alone but who know the old liner would fall apart when taking in out. And guess what, NO ONE makes anything that looks like the original. So I bought a replacement from our friend in Texas.
It's now time to start to reassemble the top. If you have seen the video put together by the Michigan Chapter they have a Tech. School dedicated to the reassembly of a 63 hardtop.
One of the first things they do is lay a strip of glue with a brush under the new headliner, QUESTION: is this really needed??
It will probably take me forever to get it back together. I'll take lots of pictures for anyone who may want them in the future.
One picture I attached shows the Job Number and the color the top is to be painted. If that Job Number matches the number on your car you can bet the top went down the line with your car. Essentially it's the original top ordered with the car. The other picture is the new paint.
Anyone with any suggestions?
Cheers
