    70 Convertible Rear Carpet

I reviewed the JG and see the illustration around the hinge.

Does anyone have a good picture of that detail around the hinge? Mine currently reflects what the JG shows for 71-72 and is not original nor did it have original carpet when purchased.

There are a couple previous posts without pictures of this area.

    Thanks,

    Bill

Just a small peek at the upcoming manual.
Now if you would please write the appropriate NCRS Board members to encourage them to print it in color, that would be appreciated:

          HI Patrick,

I sent an email requesting a color JG for the latest revision.

            Re: 70 Convertible Rear Carpet

            Old thread but...

I finally and I mean finally installing the carpet in my 70 Convertible.

Does anyone have a measurement of how far up the side of the hinge the carpet ears extend? Do they extend the same on both sides or is the passenger side a little different due to the Astro Vent actuator assembly?

            Thank you !

              Re: 70 Convertible Rear Carpet

Any close up pictures and dimensions around the hinge area of a 69 or 70 Convertible rear carpet would be great. The pictures I have seen are with A/C or of the driver's side and don't really show the side with the Astro Vent mechanism. The measured height of the ears would be a big help.

The new JG shows the detail and the old JG shows configuration in a sketch but I am still not clear. There is a 72 Convertible with original carpet I can look at but 70 is different.
              Thank you.

Interesting the black-out operation back there. I wouldn't have expected that extra effort there in a not-so-visible area.

It is interesting the factory would spray a partial black out in the hinge and back of the compartment. Seems like Chevy would ask if it would look better and require less labor to just eliminate that work.

My thought was that this is not a high visibility area, so why spend the money? It is something to look at in other years.

I hope the image helps Bill L.

                        HI Gary,

Exactly what I was looking to see. What was driving me a little nuts is how the carpet tucks up behind the astrovent actuator. The rubber line kinda gets in the way of the carpet laying flat against the hinge. Your picture shows the bulge. The carpet is also basically as tall as the hinge which was another detail I was hoping to see.

Now I do not need to delay the install as Al Knock made the ears exactly as shown. I was afraid I would need to modify and I don't. BTW he also made the rear carpet with the corn row running in the correct front to back direction.

found primer, body color, and blackout in the area and on the astrovent mechanism as in your pictures. I will readily admit I over restored that area when I restored the astrovent assembly. I was tired of finding the old dried up foam on my carpet. Also found a really nice sized mud wasp nest on the driver's side. Wasps were long gone.

                        Thank you!!

                            Hi Gary,

You will need to request that he manufacture carpet in the rear with the rows running front to back and the fronts running side to side. If you have a 70 you will need to request no dimmer pad. You will also have to request the rear carpet cut to your specification for a 70 Convertible. I made a sketch for him to follow on the rear carpet.

                            Kind Regards,

                            Bill

Glad to hear that Knoch is finally making the ears on the bulkhead correct. I took mine with a pattern to a local trim shop, and the man trimmed the carpet and restitched the binding.
