    1970 Corvette Core Support

    Hi All,

Looking for a core support for my late 70 LT1. I have an original but the bottom is rusted out and not salvageable. Ideally I would want an NOS or Original unit to go into the car but not sure I can find one. Does anyone know the original part number for a 70 Core Support. Assuming its the support for a 26inch copper radiator (I have the original radiator in my car).

If NOS/ Original's are off the table, who makes the best reproduction? Looking for fit as much as originality/ show points.

    Thanks,
    Dave

    Re: 1970 Corvette Core Support

I purchased and installed one into a 1976 Corvette about 18 months ago. The unit was purchased through Paragon, and I suspect was made by Coffman Corvette. I had zero issues installing it, and the fit was exactly like factory. Having removed/installed a few of these over the years I was very pleased with the product.

This unit would be very similar to what your car would use, and I would not hesitate to buy another one.

        Joe, Is a core support from a 1969 435hp car the same as 1970 LT-1 ?

Paragon lists Paragon Number: 2350 for the LT-1.

              Re: 1970 Corvette Core Support

I highly recommend the Coffman Corvette core support. The one I got for my '70 was indistinguishable from the original (other than the rust ). Small company; order direct and you get personal service and cut out the middle man. IIRC, reproducing core supports is their main business.

I don't know about LT-1s, but with a 454 the lower radiator mounting brackets are spot welded to the core support, and their location is CRITICAL if the radiator is to fit. 1/16" will make a difference. So I asked Coffman to ship a new core support without the brackets, then I spot welded the brackets myself where I needed them. I think they gave me a $25 discount because of this.

Core supports are apparently a best seller, maybe because they collect water and rust. This was the only component on my car that suffered rust through.

Thanks guys. I'll go to Coffman for the support.
