    1963 Exhaust System Recommendation

I have an all original unrestored ’63 Split Window coupe,340HP. I am the 3rd owner and the car has 61,000 original miles. The original owner had the exhaust system replaced in 1977 at approximately 50,000miles. The system is in good shape but far from original. I want to preserve the car in as close to original condition as possible so what would you guys recommend I do with the exhaust? Options I’m considering are trying to locate an original/NOS system or a high quality reproduction system (Gardner).

Rob, I cannot speak for finding NOS exhaust, but can tell you Eric,s exhaust is a quality part and he keeps getting better. My 72 system is a nice fitting and sounding system, 100% correct- No but close enough. 63 maybe a little easier to reproduce that the 72. the other maker I like is Corvette Central. My two cents

Just got a new system from Allens and it looks great. He did it in 409 stainless so a magnet would stick as original. Call Mike Allen 574 722 7272

Anyone use Allen's on a C1? Other threads/posts say Corvette Central aluminized is best for C1. Thoughts?

I just went through the same process for my original pipes to the muffler, 27K mile '64, that had the mufflers replaced by a Wagner set about 30 years ago. I chose to find an NOS set to use to keep it as original as possible.

I have been looking for NOS but have not had any luck yet. In the mean time I'm considering a Gardner system. How does Gardner compare with Allen's and the Corvette Central systems?

Rob, Corvette central make a pretty correct system for the 63 and is a much better price. You can opt for the carbon steel one piece muffler and inter. pipe assy. they do flatten the pipe as it goes under the rear spring and has the correct mandrel bends. you will want to save the original clamps if you can, or Greg Thompson( inside driveline) sells the correct clamps at the rear tail spout. Gardner's system is much the same but you'll have to weld the muffler to the pipe.
