Re: Tank Sticker on EBAY, Today 2/23/16
Well, I didn't see the auction, but don't judge it too quickly as fake just because it was called a tank sticker in the auction and here's why. Although they didnt stick the Order Copy to the tanks until 67, GM did produce what looks like a tank sticker for cars 66 and back. They look very similar to what is considered a "tank sticker" but may have a number 5, 6 or 7 up on top or not. It was the Order Copy, which is exactly what turned into a tank sticker on the later cars. I have pictures of them. They are pretty unusual because they were usually left with the dealer. Since many dealers have obviously gone out of business many people who collect paper were smart enough to try to buy old paperwork from the dealers before they closed there doors, thus getting there hands on some unusual items which are now floating around out there.
Several months ago someone on eBay was selling tons of paperwork from George Olsen Chevrolet from Calif. Several auctions were from cars 66 and back and all had the Corvette Order forms which looked for the most part like tank stickers. The stuff is out there.
i see the window sticker for the same car is on auction for just under $9k.- Top

Re: Tank Sticker on EBAY, Today 2/23/16
Being a new 66 owner (Late Dec.) I have been slowly learning the details about the cars. I did learn last week the 66's did have a build sheet for the assembly line workers similar to the Tank Sheets for the 67's. The 66 build sheets were not tied down on the car but floated within the car somewhere (stuck in a door handle, gas filler door, dash board) available to the workers as the car moved down the assembly line. I have been told that these build sheets were printed on IBM track style paper. I have also heard the 66 build sheets generally were sent along with the car to the dealer. Dealers probably placed them in there files or threw them away. Like tank sheets they were really not something for the eyes of the customer. Since they were never attached to car like tank sheets they are extremely rare. I hope I am learning correctly.
All The Best!
