    67 Ignition switch lite

How is 67 ignition switch lite illuminated? I think I may have the wrong switch? have a bulb socket hanging with no bulb and no place to put it?

Tom, The stock switch has a provision for the lamp socket. The 1967 AIM shows the wrong lamp harness end. It shows the earlier type with a unique metal bracket, which as I recall was used on the 1963 to 19?? versions, not 1967.

(edited to correct pt# error) Switch Part# is 1116686.The back of the switch will have a "686" part# suffix.

The lamp socket snaps into the backside opening hole. In the photos above(file photos from ebay). There is also a black cardboard cover over the large arch shaped hole. This will capture the light and direct it into the tumbler area.

Not a great photo of the lamp installed but all I have at the moment.

When the lamp is lit is directs a barely visible light into the keyslot area for the driver to find where the key goes.

Rich - The drawing of the ignition switch shown on UPC 6, SHEET B4, p. G188 of the CHEVROLET DRAFTING GRAPHIC ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS for the 1967 Corvette that I have is as you noted interesting; but the Part Number listed is 1116686. The original Delco-Remy ignition switch should have the "686" embossed on the surface of the step in the switch case . In addition, an important feature of the original DR "686" ignition switch is per the OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS in the 67 CORVETTE owner's manual, p. 6, "The key must be pushed in while turning to the ACCESSORY position for operating the accessories when the engine is not running." Unfortunately, there is a later version of the GM DR "686" ignition switch with the "686" embossed on the step that does not have the "push in" feature to go to the ACCESSORY position & this ignition switch is listed as the replacement for the original 1966 Corvette, p/n 1116673, & the original 1967 Corvette, p/n 1116686, ignition switches. The original 1966 Corvette, p/n 1116673, ignition switch also had the "push in" feature to go to the ACCESSORY position. Pete

Pete, Thanks for the "catch" I used the wrong photos and numbers. I corrected my post and added the correct photos.

Rich, Good photo of the bulb shining through the key and cylinder, Kind of useless Huh. and since it only shines through with the light switch in on position.

Probably the most useless lamp on the car. All one would have to do is leave the door open so the courtesy lights stay on to see the key slot.

Good thing most folks don't use the lighter in their classic cars let alone try to use them at night.
