'61-'62 Tire Well Drain Plug

The 1961-62 6th Edition Corvette TIM&JG indicates that the drain hole in the tire well was filled with a "translucent plastic flanged plug." I can honestly say I've never seen one. Does anyone know of a supplier of these plugs that are reasonable facsimiles of the original? Thank you.

i've not come across any late c-1's with the plastic plug in their spare tire tub.nor have i seen any evidence of a hole plugged(with mat and resin) . mike

It's part# is shown in the 61/62 AIMs.

In the spare floor and in the cavities behind the rear wheels.

The identical part is used in all late 1966 & 1967 Corvettes in 2 locations. Let's have some fun. Who knows where they are and what they are used for?

For those curious, the same plastic plug was used in production in all late 1966 and 1967 cars. Part# 3738198 was installed in the body reinforcement plates(3894563 L, 3894564 R, in the rear wheel well area. UPC 1 Bolt Weld Sheet B1 Item 10.

This plate was there for the attachments for the RPO A85 Shoulder Harness option. The plate included a weld nut, 7/16"x20. The plug was likely installed in the reinforcement before assembly to the body. When A85 was installed, the plugs were removed for bolt installation. The plugs were installed from the inside, therefore covered by the glued-in mat and carpeting.

Anybody know where I could get one of these plugs? It doesn't appear that either Corvette Central, Paragon, or Zip carry them.

I had one like that in my Bowtie 62 that was judged at the convention in Overland Park, KS. The judges took a lot of pictures of things.
