    Yes, the I is a 1.

Re: Engine Block Date Code Question

What Richard says does make perfectly good sense. My 62 is # 5394 was built about 4 days prior to the car in Question (#5744). My engine block stamp reads 2105394 F0109RC and the casting date is L 19 1 . Maybe the guy stamping that particular block that day got a one (1) in place of the zero (0) in the stamping gang . Could be ?

Could be, but that wouldn't explain the funky broach marks.

(And I added additional info from John in my post #14 above.)

Could be, but the burden of proof for that would be on the owner at judging time. Good luck with that. And good luck with explaining the broach marks as well. That, in my opinion, is a not-well-done restamp.

I don't normally like to post comments about things like this in case I see the car on the judging field (and especially from a low quality photo). However, in this case I will say the Rev Mike has provide some very good advice. There would be much conversation on this '62 pad.

            Regards,

            Dennis

Re: Engine Block Date Code Question

Without doubt, Daniel's question has been answered. There has been significant question by knowledgeable people on the originality of the broach/stamp. I doubt if that will ever get better as time goes on.

To me that means that the engine block was casted on December 14 1961. However, with the block stamped F1130RF means that the engine was assembled on November 30 1961 Which is prior to when the block was casted. Any ideas from anyone?

The person selling the car should tell you the issue with the pad. If the answer is "I DON'T KNOW" or "THAT'S THE WAY I GOT IT" then the issue becomes one of deception. Somewhere along the line information of it's identity was not disclosed. Another case of imitation becoming real.............

I agree with you Gene. I'm not looking to buy the car I just wanted to check it out for our 1962 Corvette Data Base Survey. The car was listed on the C-1 registry with no issues listed on the motor. Evidently a dealer came up with the car or the owner consigned it to a dealer. The owner that we have listed in our survey was from Indiana. Thanks , Dan

FYI - Easy to remember: All dated components used the letter "I" except for electrical components that skipped the letter "I".
