    1963 300HP Carb Stud

Again, going over my judging sheets for the 2016 National. I received a small ding for not having the dimple on the 4 carb. studs. It's a 300HP engine. I called Paragon and LIC and I lost them in the conversation.

Anyway, has anyone found a supplier for the studs. The dimple is a small mark in the center not a concave indentation?

    Thanks

Harry, you are correct a dimple is on the top of the stud.

I think the only way you're going to get 4 of these is from a fastener specialist like Richard Fortier or from junk yard scrounging. However, I don't think this, particular, stud was very widely used so it could be a LONG search.

              Harry,

Any machinist will take a stud and give you back a 63 300HP stud. Send me a set of studs and I'll have my machinist do it for you. Only $100.00 per stud.

In my intake stud collection I have a set of 1.32" long studs from a 3866948 BB intake dated "I245" (Sept. 24, 1966) that have the dimple on the top end (fine threaded end). Enclosed are 3 photos.

I also have a set of 1.54" long intake studs from a 3875952 SB intake dated "E106" that have the dimple on the bottom end (coarse threaded end). I will add photos, if requested.

I looked at LIC and Dr. Rebuild. They both call out the longer stud for 63 - 65 due to the thicker mounting plate under the AFB. Dr. Rebuild's stud is black phosphate colored and LIC is cad. Thoughts?

For the 63 AFB the stud needs to be somewhere between 1.75 and 2.00 inches long.

Here are two photos of a set of studs from a 3875952 intake dated "E106" (May 10, 1966). The dimple on 3 of the 4 studs is at the bottom end (coarse threaded end).

                          Harry,

In my collection I also have 3 intake studs from an "early" 1963 300 HP intake with casting # 3799349 dated "K122" (Nov. 12, 1962) that measure 1 3/4" long with the "dimple" on the bottom end (coarse threaded end). The coarse thread length is about 1/2" long while the fine thread length is about 1" long. If needed, I can post a couple photos.

Harry, The studs aren't the only thing you may need. You need the correct nuts. Notice David's fine pic. Shows the nuts having a built in flat washer so to speak.
No one has the correct stud Harry. Going to have to have the ends machined. Then massaged.

Years ago I bought the carb studs from Chevy thinking they would work on the fuel injection air meter to plenum studs. They werent' even close. Will see what I have here. John
