66 L79 oil pan wire clip?

I got another 66 small block oil pan question, did they use a clip mounted to one of the oil pan bolts for the starter wires or battery cable?

    No, they didn't.

I think you are referring to the clip that routs the two forward plug wires (cylinders 1,3 & 2,4). There is one clip on each side attached with a pan screw in the middle on each side on small blocks. They get partly covered by the "V" chrome ignition shields.

Does anyone know which oil pan bolt on each side of the motor gets the spark plug wire clips? I checked AIM and see no reference, since it was installed at flint engine plant.

I recently put a new pan on my 66 L79, but the car is at the painters so I can't post a picture. What I did for the clips was use the shielding wiring covers (the V pieces) to determine which pan bolt the clips should be on.

              Brian

On the driver's side, clip goes under the 6th screw back counting from the front; that will be just forward of the dipstick tube contour.
On the passenger's side, clip goes under the 5th screw back from front; that will be just about even with starter case projection.
Although on different front-to-rear locations, both clips will end up at the apex of the 'boomerang' shielding pieces.

I'm almost ready to paint my 68 L79 engine. Were these clips on the engine for painting? I had too much grease on them at tear down to tell if they had paint on them. Thanks in advance. Jeff

I just found another post that Terry stated they are on at painting. Thanks, all.

I am not sure which Terry you are quoting, however, my 1970 (January 14 engine assembly) has them painted. I would expect 1968 could be the same, but a response from someone with a 1968, like Terry Dusterman, would be more meaningful than my evidence.

Yes Terry, I quoted you from another thread related to the clips being painted. Thanks for your help.
