JG says natural or semi gloss but I seemed to remember these being forged steel with a black/dark blue color. What should I do? Thanks in advance

Jerry, My 63 went through regional judging painted black and no issues, I think you find to duplicate the forged look from the factory will not work once they've rusted.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: 1963 Front Sway Bar
Just because a piece goes thru judging with no deductions does not make it correct. It just says a particular judge on a particular day allowed passage of it as presented. I would rather have the piece restored correctly and painted black is not. A 63 does have a black out required that the manual is silent about. But entails the suspension and would only be on the ends of the sway bay if present. Definitely not completely black painted forged sway bar. The black out was a hosed on application when the chassis was inverted. This application would not be applied on 65-67 because of disc brakes.- Top

Re: 1963 Front Sway Bar
Gene, I did not say any where in my post what is correct or not correct, My statement says mine was painted black and had no issues at judging. simply it went through judging without a hitch being painted black. The new judging manual maybe misleading or maybe correct.
Jerry, I was not trying to mislead you, as you likely already know blackout or no blackout is a touchy situation here on the Discussion board,I followed the JM when restoring my 63, and opted to not black out every piece on my 63, however the stabilizer I did, As Gene states everyone may not judge the same with respect to black out.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

No rebuttal to what you said and no quote of you saying what was correct. I replied to the inquiry and response as to the correct finish was not spelled out. Understand judging is by volunteers and as I said errors are made it is just the way it is. Just because a condition got thru does not give reason for others to do the same when it is not correct.- Top

Re: 1963 Front Sway Bar
For what it's worth, Nolan Adams book lists black as the correct color. The caveat is the paint was very low quality and didn't stay on long. Typical of the master cylinder also.
