Enjoyed writing and seeing my story published about finding, restoring and having my 1972 Corvette judged. I wanted to say thank you for the emails and great feedback about the story. I actually authored that article close to two years ago - and it took a while to get published since Corvette Restorer comes out 4 times a year. It was fun to surprise the gentleman I bought the car from with his photo in the story. If anyone has questions about the flight judging on a 72, I'm happy to help. Best - Scott

Scott,
i really enjoyed your article as well, especially since I used to own an identical twin of your car. The firemist paint is indeed beautiful, especially in the sun. Enjoy your car - I wish I still had mine.- Top

Hi Scott,
Really enjoyed the article as its almost identical to my journey into the hobby. We purchased our first corvette a '72 elkhart green coupe 4 years ago. I may have a few hundred judging questions for you
Cheers,

Thanks! I found it interesting about how and when the Firemist (metallics) colors were first introduced. Ontario Orange (when correct) is just spectacular.. but I will admit, the other colors available were great too. Restoring that car makes you really appreciate the incredible talent and ingenuity that existed at GM back in the day. The subtle design elements; raw power and sexy curves on that car are timeless.- Top

Re: Corvette Restorer Magazine Article - 1972 Corvette
Barry, Appreciate the note. I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have about my 72 flight judging experience and would strongly urge you to experience the flight judging process with your car. As an aside, there seems to be alot of people who have an impression that the NCRS judging process is snobby, elitist or something like that -- and then many people don't participate. Personally, I've found it to be just the opposite. While there are a few that you may encounter through the judging and event process that take themselves a tad too seriously, I've learned to separate personality from performance. All of the people I've encountered via NCRS judging, events and here on the discussion boards are some of the nicest, most knowledgeable and passionate people you're going to meet. The judging process was an eye opener. I would challenge anyone to find a shop where you can pay about $75 and have 6 qualified corvette judges spend a day going over your car (Operations, Exterior, Interior, Chassis, Mechanical, Engine) etc. and then give you highly detailed, documented and a significantly knowledgeable expert appraisal regarding the current condition of your Corvette as compared to "as delivered" standards. The kicker is that following the judging, you will receive this paperwork which is a path to restoration. It's also documentation for your Car which is very valuable. It creates a point of reference at a specific point in time. Here's a link to a blog i created on my Corvette Hobby website where I took ALL of the feedback from the judging and then charted the restoration. http://www.twoplays25.com/Blog.php I learned that there are many small things that collectively can close the gap on some points towards Flight Improvement (i.e. moving from 3rd to 2nd to 1st) -- and at the same time, the last 5% are probably the most expensive points to collect. I'd say that the journey is more rewarding than any ribbon you may or may not earn along the way.- Top

Re: Corvette Restorer Magazine Article - 1972 Corvette
My pleasure. I've heard from quite a few NCRS members -- and the feedback is terrific. Lot's of 72 owners here -- many who owned Ontario Orange or identify with the story about the finding "their" car. Thanks again for the kind words.- Top

Just received several more emails on the article. What a great response! Again -- it's great to hear that this article was enjoyable and hit the mark for many members. Everyone seems to agree on the final point which is "just go drive your Corvette".- Top
