    1971 Vacum Hose Clip Location

I have a 71 Roadster with 454, and have seen the the clip that holds the steel vacuum line and rubber vacuum line at the drivers side hood latch located in two different places. The AIM in UPC 12 sheet 14 shows it riveted to the horizontal firewall beside the drivers hood latch, but have seen pictures with it located under the second bolt of the latch. Are they both correct or is it the riveted location?

Next question, if it is riveted is it a pop rivet or soft aluminum rivet. It has the same part number as the rivet that holds the same type of clip on passenger side that holds the vacuum lines there and that one is a pop rivet.

    Thanks
    Sheldon

    Sheldon,

On my 71 454, #6224 Jan build, the clip is under the second bolt away from the driver's side hood latch as you described in the photos you have seen. While I have not owned the car since new I have owned it for 30+ years and have no reason to think it is not as delivered.
The AIM sheet you referred is dated 3/13/70 so maybe it was later changed?

      Sheldon,

I finally got to check my 71 and both clip locations was used. The one under the driver's side hood latch bolt AND there is one riveted to the fender as shown in the AIM. It is the same rivet used on the passenger side as you described in your post.
Sorry for the confusion - hope this helps.

      Phil
