    1971 Temperature sending unit

I have a april 1971 build date on my LS5 car, according to what i have read it should have the pin style temperature sending unit. Original one is gone but the green wire with plastic connetor does not look like it would work. The harness has not been cut on that wire, it looks like it is more suitable to the 72 style sending unit. Would they have started using that style late in 71. Does anyone have a picture of the connector for the pin style sending unit? Thanks

    Sheldon,

The 72 style was the service replacement for earlier years, and there was a separate wire end available to change from pin style to the T-style. Having said that, my June 71 car has the T (or button) style as well, though I've not peeled back the wiring harness enough to see if a new fitting was spliced into place. You might want to check yours, or at least feel for a tell-tale lump of a splice.

      Sheldon,
You may want to check with Lectric Limited. They do have the sending units along with the wiring connections. They also offer a repair kit for those who had their originals switched. I've attached a few photos from their site of the sending unit, wire connector and a repair kit. I've dealt with them in the past, and Gregg is very knowledgeable and helpful.
      Hope this information is useful.

Sheldon my 71 LS5 is a July build with the pin type as shown in the photo below. Green wire with a black shield and white insulator.
