[QUOTE=Mark Edmondson (22468);766043]Forgive the dismissive remark. I actually believe partnering with an auction house would be an interesting experiment. It would add a new dimension to the event and maybe introduce NCRS to new folks.[/QUOTE

No problem with your remark at all, I just wanted to clarify. Introducing NCRS to new folks (especially those who are car people) is exactly what is needed.

I didn't get the feeling there was a lot of that such thing going on. I know one of the split window owners (to remain unnamed) got an unsolicited offer but it didn't work out. Most of the owners I mingled with had an unbridled love of their particular car and I don't think the vehicles were going anywhere.

Lakeland is a fine location, Old Town can't compete. Everyone should remember why they are there and why the event is held, and that is to judge the cars. Everything else is secondary to that, and that includes using the NCRS just so you can maximize your profit from sale at auction. The aircraft hangars are spacious, secure, clean, and out of the weather. Imagine being a judge working on your back on dirty asphalt, in the rain, or in grass. At Lakeland the swap area is the largest and roomiest ever. It is level, clean, well maintained ground with wide alleys and every vendor should be thankful for that. Public parking is also the best ever. Seriously, have you ever tried to find parking at Old Town on a Saturday when the weather was great? You end up out on the highway. Many of the hotels are a 5 minute drive and have restaurants within 100 feet of them. Old Town is nothing but an over priced tourist trap, I hope the January meet stays in Lakeland.

          Re: Lake Land Regional Meet

Over the years the Winter Regional has been much more than a judging event. It has been an opportunity for many of us that live in cold weather climates to enjoy the warmth of Florida and renew old acquaintances while enjoying our common love of the Corvette. The hangars in Lakeland certainly make the judging alot easier and keeps the cars out of the weather. The area is isolated. The vendor numbers appear to be down. If the event just becomes about the judging, it will shrink every year IMO. Many of us that have traditionally come to Florida from all over the country aren't having our cars judged. It was always fun to stay in a hotel near the event and enjoy walking over several times to the event each day. Lots to do in Old Town as well. I agree that it is crowded, but it's fun. They have cruise nights, restaurants and interesting shops that lend to an enjoyable atmosphere. Mecum is right up the street. I can remember Mecum being right at the NCRS event in Kissimmee at the old site up the street.

Just want to give a tip of the hat to the Florida Chapter for all their hard work over the years. We have certainly enjoyed it for many years and hope it continues and returns to Old Town.

Can anyone confirm that the red '58 is an RPO 684 car? If it is, what's the VIN?

We drove 970 miles through snow and ice to get there.
Then through the storm of the century (according to the weather terrorists) the to get home to Ohio.
But as usual we had a great time. I have been to Kissimmee a half dozen times and I like it but Lakeland is fine.
Stayed in Lakeland about 6 or 8 miles away from the show, easy drive, tons of restaurants which was very convenient.
You will never satisfy everyone but the Florida Chapter did a great job.

                      I don't know if you mean the orange-looking '58 that parked beside me.....it is a radio-delete, heater-delete fuelie and was flawless...scored 98+ points. I don't know the VIN...

I vote for any venue that keeps our cars, and us judges, out of the weather, off the dirt and asphalt, and dry. Anything else is not acceptable and I would not take a car or judge otherwise, sorry. The main reason I never judge or enter cars in MCA anymore.

Some of the guys that went to the Mecum Auction drove by Old Towne. They said that Old Towne area was cleaned up. The rides across the street were gone. And there's big time construction on what was the vacant swap meet land.

I go to Old Town every weekend just about. The new owner (the son of the original owner) has some big plans including big name concerts on the newly reacquired swap meet area -- I hear they are lobbying hard to get the NCRS meet back there. We'll have to see....Lakeland was nice primarily for judges and judgees due to the hangars being out of the weather and secure. Logistically its more problematic. I left my split window there four nights in a row during judging and slept soundly the whole time. That aspect IS nice...
