    You're right, some are undersized.

First, the best straps are used originals. They don't break (easily) and seem to hold up well. I have purchased new reproductions from just about all the main sources over the years, and find that they MAY hold up and not break if they are not in stressed locations. Otherwise the plastic strap will crack. LICS now may have the best ones, I don't know. But I have purchased from about everyone over the years.....LICS, Paragon, CC, and DR Rebuild. I finally bought some used ones from Ebay a few years back and they have not cracked or broken and are doing fine. They came from one of our NCRS members up in the Northwest. He has his own Ebay Store.

Regarding fit, I use heat shrink tubing for the straps with oversized holes in the fiberglass. I use 1-2 or 3 layers of the heat shrink as needed to get the right/tight fit. Use tubing a bit longer than needed for the strap pin/anchor and simply cut off the excess end(s) after it shrinks with a razor blade. Then install the strap in the fiberglass. The black heat shrink tubing is hardly noticeable once installed. Some folks simply use a small gob of black 3M weatherstrip adhesive and let it set up for a few days before driving the car and moving things around. This should also work.

I put a small drop of emblem adhesive on the base of the push in and that takes up the space to make a firm fit

For the straps under a lot of load, on the back side once in the hole use a small black tie wrap around the stem. Pull it up very tight. Trim off excess tie wrap. It will not pull out unless you cut off the tie wrap.

Another option is to heat stake the back side once in the hole. For the front side that retains the wire or hose super glue works well and does not show.
