Question on Judging and Parts Replacement under Recall

What is NCRS Judging guidance with respect to Recall parts replacement. I always read judged as left the factory, but if parts are being changed under recall and they look different or are marked different from factory assembly, how does that get handled in Flight judging practice?

The Judging Reference Manual covers this on Page 35. If you have documentation for the recall and it appears to have been done as a dealer would have done it you will receive minimum originality deduction.

It wasn't a recall, but didn't Chevy replace the Vega steering wheel (1976?) if the customer complained about it?

They swapped it with a Corvette one, right?

Mark they were called campaigns, Recalls are safety related items, sometimes you'll see GM and other companies extend the warranties beyond the norm for failed parts that really should not have failed. or can be also known as goodwill.

And there are also GM Special Policy warranties that have a time and mileage limit. Duramax injectors were on a special policy time and mileage warranty at one time as an example.

So if an owner had documentation about it, would a part replaced under a campaign or "Special Policy" also be treated with some leniency during judging?

Are the interlocking engine mounts covered under a recall on a 67 ?

Yes. At worst it might be treated like a service replacement part, looking at configuration and possibly date deductions.

                          John -

Nope - Corvette was one of the few car lines not affected by the motor mount recall; if a mount separated on a Corvette, the throttle linkage didn't jam wide open like it did on passenger cars.
