    Speedo Cable

I am shopping for a new speedometer cable for my 72 BB T400 car but I am getting conflicting opinions. Some say one piece (most), some say two piece which is something I have never heard of. A two piece cable what's up with this?

    Thanks Rey

Rey, my 72 THM400 is a 2 piece cable. I believe 4 speeds have the one piece.

Ed is right. 1970-1972 one piece is manual trans. TH400 speedo cable is 2-piece. It has to do with clearances for the line workers to make the hook-up on body drop. Note the lack of clearance around the TH400 under the car.

          2 piece.

Many, many part number supersessions over the years. As far as I can tell, here are the current part numbers:

          upper-----GM #88959472

          lower------GM #88959442

With the number of supersessive part numbers over the years, I can't guarantee that these will be configured exactly as-original or that they'll be exactly the original length. When things get this far out in time and "littered with part number changes", all sorts of things can happen. Part number consolidations can wreak havoc, too.

Agree - did the same to my 72 BB TH400 about 5 years ago with the GM parts. As I recall, there was a little excess length compared to the originals.
