    1962 Corvette Data Base Survey

We are still conducting our 1962 Corvette Survey for our data base. We have 1506 cars at the present time. If you would like to participate in this survey contact Daniel Ross NCRS # 12918 (cdross66@gmail.com) Phone 530 345-2354 or Steve Clifford (skloepfer66@aol.com) Phone 714 842-8140 We would like to have your cars serial number, engine type, transmission type, car colors, Hardtop /soft top, Big Tank, Big Brake, Power Top , Power Windows, PCV, Radio delete or heater delete. We would like to document all the remaining 62's still in existence. It's a big task but we are up to it. We are both retired and are doing this strictly as a hobby. All information will be kept strictly confidential. People who participate can be notified as to the total number of cars in the survey. Thanks

How about publishing (to those who participate, and I do) some of the data you have like engine build dates, casting dates transmission/rear data compared to "app4roximate" VIN's. It could be like the chart I provided to you about FI serial. Numbers VS APPROXIMATE vin NUMBERS.

I should also that we want all 62 Corvette owners to respond if they so desire. Their car can be Stock, Resto -Mod ,Custom or a project car. We would also request that you send us your name and hometown. Thanks. Daniel

Hello Patrick, I sent you all of the 62 Fuelly cars that we have listed. We did not document the serial number of the FI units. I can prepare you a list of serial numbers and engine & transmission data. We are not documenting rear differential data. Thanks , Daniel

          Dan,
Ambitious project! As long as your investing all this energy, why not simply ask ANYONE who has ever owned a 62 Corvette (especially original owners) to submit info? You might be surprised how many have changed options etc. over the years. Bought #20867S107427 in early 63 as my "cross country" transportation to college. Honduras maroon, black interior, white conv. top only, radio, heater, 300HP 4 speed. I beat the "jeebies" out of it sprinting cross country, used it as a tow vehicle and push car for a dragster I was running, changed engines multiple times and finally sold it with an unknown 327 FI equipped engine. Would really be surprised if car still exists but submit vin and info to acknowledge car's existence at one time and relive some great memories.

Hello David, Thanks for your input. So far your car hasn't turned up. # 7426 happens to be owned by my partner in this endeavor (Steve Clifford). That car is also Mar-Blk, fuelly , 4 speed and ST only. The car is in Colorado and is not restored. We will keep checking for your old car. Dan

You say "all information will be kept strictly confidential". I'm not trying to be negative, but what is the purpose of the survey, then? And another question; is the intent to find out how a 62 is configured now, or how it was apparently done by St. Louis in 61-62? I logged in 400+ 62's in the 1975-1983 time period when these cars had many years less chance to be reconfigured. The percentages of red cars and 340-hp cars was much lower then.

I appreciate your input Mike and I know that you've been in this hobby a lot longer than I have and I've read many of your articles which have helped me on my car. The purpose of this endeavor is to try to document how many 62 are still out there. In turn this can help people locate cars that they used to own if the current owner agrees to it. We are not trying to pul a scam or entice people into doing something they don't want to do. A few owners that I have contacted don't want to give out their cars information and I respect that. I know that the original configuration on the cars change over the years as different owners want different things or the owner wants something he thinks is better. We document any 62 out there be it stock, custom, resto-mod or a project car. I hope this rambling helps you and others to better understand our little undertaking. i have the order sheet , original owner's name(he was a patient of mine) and selling chevy dealer but the paperwork doesnt include the vin #( which is understandable since the order was drawn up long before the 62 vet was assigned a vin #). since i have the selling dealer(a very small dealer i've never heard of) , can ncrs determine the vin# by going thru the dealer deliver data the club has. i'd be willing to send the paperwork to dave brigham or bill sangry for insertion into our documents currently held at the AACA museum. the car was a white 340 hp 62. mike
