    C2 Seat Zig-Zag springs

I'm into restoring my 1966 seats. One of the zig-zag springs on the back is broken. I ordered a new one from Paragon, but it is of a much heavier/thicker spring wire (see picture). Plus it has much more of an arch than the one I took out due partly to the heavier gauge. I do not think I can get it to work.

Does anyone sell a more correct spring?

Hi Don, That's good information becauase I have a similar problem. I have the original seat covers in good condition on my seats and was going to get a couple of those springs for 2 that are pretty badly corroded. We need to find the right ones or an alternate plan. If I come up with anything I'll let you know. I am quite concerned about taking the originals off and getting them back on.

ZIP's listing says "correct" zig-zag springs, but the only sell them in sets. I was hoping to find a single one.

Your local auto upholstery shop should have those springs for sale by the inch.

I had one broken out of a couple of seats I did recently and I took it by my local muffler shop and he zapped it with his wire feed welder. Took about 2 minutes and he didn't charge me anything. These springs were rust free western stuff and I had them dipped prior to reassembly so that I could paint them. I was cautious about it not holding but it has done fine with the weld so small you can't hardly see it. I always try to repair my original stuff before I buy repo because I run into the same thing you all above me have.
          It's a good life!

Good suggestion. I found some on-line and ordered. Looks like the zig-zag springs are pretty common across the upholstery business, just different gauge sized wire. When I measure the original I get something close to 12 gauge, but what I found on-line was 8, 9, or 11 gauge. I ordered the 11 gauge. What I got from Paragon was probably 9 gauge.

            Thanks,

            Don
