    While the above engine combo is idling and if you put your hands over the outboard carbs should the car continue to idle as normal or will it stall. My buddies car dies. I thought that while idling this setup runs off the center carb.

    We are having a rich situation that is causing rough idling and was not sure if we had a vacuum leak? To determine a good baseline since we don't know much about the current tune we have installed new points, plugs, but yet to install new plug wires and rotor and distributor cap but have them. With these parts installed have not seen a improved idle. We have tested the coil and ballast resistors with known good parts and the installed parts proved ok. If ya'll could let me know about the carbs and any other things to test regarding the rich situation I would appreciate it. Oh we did remove the center carb, cleaned it reinstalled no improvements. The carb was very clean when disassembled.

    Lawrence, I just went through a 3x2 Holley exercise a few months ago. The rich issue and stumbling I had turned out to be a simple float adjustment. I had to bring the float level quite a bit below spec.

    Also, it is perfectly normal for the engine to stall if the secondaries are blocked, as they are part of the fuel circuit. Their throttle plates cannot be fully closed and there is a idle bleed on each. I was chasing a secondary problem as I too thought they should not cause a stall when covered. I was wrong.

    It's long, but this thread could shed some light on your friends car. There are also videos while the diagnosis continued. After I got the packing material cleaned out of them, further diagnosis and help from the Holley experts got me straight.
