1971 CEC solenoid bracket

Does anyone know what the finish should be on the bracket that attaches the CEC solenoid to a holly carb on a 71 car? And also what the finish should be on the nut that attached the solenoid to the bracket? Natural? Dichromate? Other?

Hi Stan,
Perhaps zinc plated with a dichromate wash on both the bracket and nut.
My observation is that the threaded portion of the body of the solenoid has the dichromate wash too.

For what its worth my base motor car with a Rochester has the same finish as Alan's except my plunger is dichromate. My label is not visible from that angle, but I think Alan's is more representative.

Hi Bill,
I think you're right about the finish on the plunger.
One of the solenoids I have that came from a Chevy parts department also has the sticker in a position that it can't be seen when the solenoid and it's bracket are mounted to the carb.

I think your bracket is on a Rochester carb, is this correct? I believe the bracket is configured differently for a Holly. Can anyone confirm that the finish for a Holly is also dichromate? Thanks.

My bet is that the bracket and nut for that application have the same finish.

Yes a gold dichromate finish on bracket, nut, bolts and french lock. Have seen a black nut finish but think that it is a service replacement. Have not seen one on a original car.

Agreed. Gold dichromate for the bracket, nut and the securing tab. I have NOS ones around here somewhere, and they're gold just like the originals I own.
