Ralph, Try John Pirkle he is in the driveline, that is a very expensive alternator.

It would be easier and "cleaner" to fix if you had the broken-off piece. However, either way it can be fixed. As Edward mentioned, John Pirkle may be able to repair it. I'm sure that Jerry Macneish could do it, too. Also, if you can find a really good aluminum welder in your area, they could probably do it.

The advantage of using John Pirkle or Jerry MacNeish is that they understand that you want a functional AND cosmetic repair; a local aluminum welder probably won't.
